Minimalism is a much discussed trend, a theme in design almost overwrought with conversation and scholarship. Nothing that could possibly be said about it could do the true notion of minimalism any justice. One simply must enact its values, embody its belief of the beauty in simplicity. And that could not be more complete in its truth than in the Eldon sideboard. It’s so incredibly simple, and of course, it is most of all incredibly beautiful in its contemporary interpretation of an idea that has reigned supreme across the latter half of the twentieth century and these first decades of the twenty-first. The sheer practicality of this piece is what further encapsulates the genius of minimalism, when so simple an object can bring so much to a space, housing objects, being used as storage space and offering ample room on top for whatever your desire, when this is achieved you know in your heart that it has transcended labels and simple become the idea of which it is attached to. It is of no surprise that this piece is influenced by the Everson Museum of Art in New York, a place known for its stunning collection of modern art, of which the Eldon sideboard could so perfectly fit alongside.
