Description
The Glengall table presents an interesting pairing. A sheriff and his loyal deputy, kept at all times at arms distance. It’s this odd weighting that provides the Glengall with its charm. The lines are for the most part angular, but the sharp geometric nature of the piece is softened somewhat by the rounded corners draped in rich veneer. The main and larger table takes the form of a large flattened cube. The grains of the oak veneer finish run vertically up and down the flawless face of the table and the sides are wrapped in the horizontal grains of the same oak veneer, beautiful, dark and rich. The base of the table contrasts beautifully with the top and is cast from a warm glowing aged brass. The brass like the table adheres to the same curved corners making what would otherwise be an ostensibly masculine piece, more delicate and more inviting. The same brass has been worked into another rounded square which has been inverted making use of the brass band as a support.
The smaller table top couldn’t be more different than its companion. About half the size and formed from a beautiful translucent smoked glass, it provides a modern touch to a classic leaning piece. Two bolts of brass secure the top to its base and provide a necessary continuity between the two platforms. And between the two sits the mediator. An open expanse of eucalyptus veneer, in which the grains seem to be reaching out in an attempt to breach the divide.
