Description
The bookcase is the creative epicentre of the home, storing everything from great novels to family photographs and ornaments. It is for precisely this reason that designers have begun to think about the expressive potential of the bookcase itself, so that the physical form represents the symbolic significance. The Pina bookcase is a brilliantly playful piece in both the formal and material sense. It is a truly remarkable and singular piece that deserves a place in any modern home.
Almost entirely modular, the piece is defined by its bold wooden frame. Vertical strips of a deep and textural wood define the piece in striking lines that guide the eyes up and down its exterior. The detailing of these pillars (at the juncture where the shelves begin) can be finished in wood or lacquer and are rounded off with brilliant metallic detailing. The horizontal shelving, that can be added or removed in a modular form, paint counteracting lines across the space they inhabit and offer a soft textural warmth in contrast to the wooden structure. The variety of size and placement of these shelves make this piece a playfully customisable affair that can be arranged and rearranged like a great musical score.
