How to create more space in the bedroom

Last time we talked about minimalistic design coming into your living room. And as you know by now, it is not so easy to achieve without redesigning your whole room. But if what you are looking for are some extra square meters in your bedroom there are other ways to achieve it.
Bedroom Space

First, you can take an example from Japan. When you think of spacious living you cannot not think of the simplistic, nature inspired design of Japanese homes. Placing a bed in the middle of the room and not having any other furniture can really open up the room, but where do you put all your things?
Designers and architects have been working for centuries making our living spaces more functional. Back in the day, each study had a massive period desk that would hold all the secrets of its owner. Letters from business partners and secret lovers, buying acts, property documents, ink, quill and so much more. Space saving tip for Victorian study – a laptop.

But this time, it’s about bedrooms. Of course, it depends on the size, shape and style of your bedroom, but here are some tips to create more space.declutter

1. Decluttering
Start small. Go through your possessions mindfully considering whether you are actually using this item or are you reminiscing over the old days. Ask yourself whether it brings you joy and if not, maybe you don’t even need it taking up space in your bedroom.
This practice will not only give you more space but also clear your mind. Allowing yourself to get rid of things that you don’t need or use anymore can be a great way to find more space for new thoughts and ideas

2. Boxes
Overstuffed shelves make your bedroom look cosy and live, but it can often make it feel crowded. A bed that has an open space underneath it gives you a great opportunity to use it as storage. Use wood, plastic or fabric boxes of any colour and push them under your bed. You might even end up with an unused piece of furniture when all of its contents have been stored under your bed. Which means even more space!storage

3. Built in annex
You don’t need to feel like you are hitting a wall when looking to increase the space in your bedroom. Use your walls! Having built in shelves or closets adds an annex to your room that can hold anything from clothing, shoes, books and old DVDs. On the other hand, do you really need those DVDs? They are probably just taking up space.

4. Sliding doors
Another space saving secret from Japanese minimalistic design is sliding doors. They save space and look neat, going well with the minimalistic design. Don’t worry if you don’t have the deep walls to install the sliding doors into. Alternative designs can slide along the wall or even fold in the aisle.

5. Highly-functional furniture
Kitchen furniture is the king of functional design, but there are plenty of space saving designs for your bedroom too. A bed that already has drawers installed below it like our “Carina Oak 4’6 Double Bed” can save you a lot of space. Of you might think that a dressing table is the opposite of space saving but organising all your jewellery and cosmetics makes your bedroom look tidy, thus more spacious.carmen bedroom

Take some breathing space to figure out the most suitable option for your bedroom or maybe just start small with decluttering. There are so many options to choose from that will make the bedroom your safe haven with a clean and orderly design and just a bit more space to breath.
