The décor of your home won’t last forever, eventually you are going to have to re-decorate and you’ll probably welcome the change after years of looking at the same walls. You might be thinking of trying something new and a bit more adventurous, something like the minimalistic look. Though this looks like it should be quite easy to achieve, this isn’t the case, in fact it takes a lot of work and self-discipline to create. The reason is that the minimalistic design entails creating a stunning and fully functional home, that is comfortable and aesthetically pleasing, but has very little in it. You have to apply the thinking of ‘living with less’ to accomplish this and you may even need to get ruthless.

The minimalistic look is one of the most stylish and modern interior designs for a living room space and it is sure to have the wow factor. The main principle is “as little as possible”, live by this rule and you should be fine, but to help you along the way, here are some of our favourite minimalistic living room ideas:
1. Seating: this is where most people go wrong and have to compromise. Large and comfortable looking, family-sized sofas aren’t going to fit into your minimalistic look. To create this feel you need to buy a small sofa, ideally a two seater, something like our ‘Morson 2 Seater Sofa’ is perfect. If your room is big and/or, you need more seating, you can consider adding some armchairs, like our ‘Cross Stick Armchair Mahogany’.
2. Tables: if you want or need a coffee table or a nest of tables, buy something that will compliment your design, ideally something with thin metal legs and a small surface. Glass tables in particular are perfect and if you buy one that is uniquely designed, such as our ‘Rosa Del Deserto 90cm Round Glass Coffee Table’, it can actually become a centrepiece.
3. Shelving: when shelving appears in a minimalistic design it is done so sparingly. If you crowd your walls with shelves and pack these, you won’t be able to truly achieve the minimalistic look. However, if used correctly, shelving can provide the perfect solution. Floating shelving and glass shelving are ideal and if you use them correctly, it can actually create a feature wall in your room, especially with something our ‘Lighterie Wenge Glass Shelving Unit’.
4. Desks: unfortunately, a workspace is not always optional, often it’s a necessity. Most desks are large and have drawers and storage facilities, which is great, unless you’re creating a minimalistic feel. When you buy your desk, choose something our innovative ‘Opal Solid Oak Z Office Desk’ design, a light and small piece.
5. Sideboards: these are a great addition to a minimalistic room as they provide some storage and can be multi-purpose, for example they could be used as an entertainment unit. Again, if you choose to buy a sideboard make sure it will match the minimalistic theme, we have lots of designs that would be ideal, such as our ‘Broadway Glass Large Sideboard’.
As you can see there are plenty of ways to create a minimalistic home that is comfortable and allows you to still do things like have a workspace or store sentimental items. One thing to keep in mind when you are thinking about what to buy is how it will all look together. Not only do the pieces of furniture all need to work well together, but they also need to create a minimalistic feel, if there are too many pieces of furniture this might ruin the look.
