All design starts with a moment of inspiration. Creativity, however original, requires a source and in this case the inspiration for the Seren stool couldn’t be more appropriate. The Portugese architect Alvaro Seren Viera. It’s a celebration of modernity, and the beauty that lies in simplicity of form. A stool isn’t something typically associated with luxury, thought of mostly as an odd uncomfortable wooden podium, reserved exclusively for bars. The Seren begs to differ. It’s diminutive form betrays a level of sophistication and attention to detail with every piece of this stool being carefully considered.
The base is formed of walnut veneer, both curved and flat faces, slope upwards towards the seat bottom, reflecting light off its natural grains. The base is split down the middle by a thin vein of pulsing, glowing aged brass that pours down the side, forming a pool at the base, providing the perfect setting for the rest of the stool. The seat bottom is comfortable to look at let alone sit on. It invites you in it and offers itself. The base of the seat is formed from the same vein of aged brass so that the sophisticated sense of luxury need not come to an abrupt end. But of course, comfort has been considered and it comes in the form of a padded fine leather seat cushion, cupped perfectly in the centre of the brass nest.
