Description
The Saltstraumen, located near the northern town of Bodo in Norway, is as close to a visual miracle that the world has to offer. One of the strongest tidal currents in the world, it encompasses maelstroms up to 10 metres in diameter as masses of seawater attempt to enter through a 150-meter wide strait every six hours. The Norsham rug, despite its muted and delicate palette, evokes the majesty and the moving strength of this oceanic spectacle.
Firstly, the size of this rug reflects the grandeur of the natural world and makes it a brilliant centrepiece for any large living space. The muted variation of different grey tones and hues offer this piece up as a clean, minimalist feature piece that is as versatile as it is subtle in its beauty. The central wave-like forms that snake through the centre of this piece pay homage to the sublimity of Saltstraumen and provide a soothing visual feature in the centre of the piece. The dense, hand-tufted finish of the rug is formed of an ultra-thin viscose made from bamboo that rounds this piece with a flourish that is wonderfully soft and almost silk-like in its texture.
