Description
When visualising the design of a writing desk, it is hard not to imagine the grand wooden structures of yesteryear or, alternatively, the cold minimalism of contemporary office suites. The designers of the Matteo writing desk, in truly modernist fashion, however seem determined to challenge these preconceptions as they house minimalist features and classically appealing materials in an effortlessly brilliant piece that belongs in any modern home.
Constructed from a bold and imposing wooden frame this piece offers an abundance of surface textures for the eyes to delight upon, paying homage to great old writing desks we may associate with the likes of Oscar Wilde. However, this piece is formed into bold geometric shapes and houses various materials that contrast with its central form. The leather panels that adorn the drawers and legs of this piece offer sensuous contrast and delight the eyes through this variety. The vast wooden table top then again uses classical materials to great effect, but finishes with a sleek modernist surface that could only be contemporary. On the surfaces of this table top we also see small metal storage sections that house cables or wireless charging areas upon request – creating intuitive design that works around the modern human.
