Description
The Graal table brings together two completely different and seemingly oppositional elements, and pairs them in a glorious and luxurious celebration of modern furniture design. The top of our table promotes simplicity. The bottom complexity. But when these two seemingly distant worlds are bought together, they speak perfect sense. At first the site of the piece is a little unsettling, as if the weight of the table top may well collapse the origami like structure below. But yet here they stand, perfectly balanced, perfectly weighted in a marriage of perfect harmony.
The structure of the base almost seems to be the blueprint of some grand design stripped backed to its bare and beautiful essentials. It zigzags its way to and fro in frantic patterns to provide the requisite support for what’s to come above. If the lower section is a framework, the table top is the body. Wholly flat, perfectly round, resolutely weighty and yet somehow, wonderfully slender and delicate. It certainly feels as though the wood body is balanced atop the framework rather than secured to it by any natural means. The table top is hand cut from a section of walnut veneer with an inlay marquetry and a matte finish and the base is formed from a labyrinth of twisting and glowing polished brass.
