Bargains aren’t something you’d usually associate with luxury furniture, but when it comes to the aptly named Wing table it’s hard to consider it as anything else. You’re buying a piece, and receiving a collection. Like the lily pads that adorn the tops of rivers and ponds, the Wing centre table appears almost impossibly light, especially when you consider that it’s about 1 and a half metres of masterfully crafted woodwork. Each of the individual lilies is seamlessly fused together to create a table that somehow, for all of it’s stylistic integrity, manages to achieve a remarkable degree of practicality. Each of the lily pads can be considered as their own entity, or as part of one larger being, much more than the sum of its parts.
Each pad, of which there is a variety of different shapes and sizes, is formed from a walnut veneer. The grains are taken into account in the design process, and the natural grains, are all too unnaturally set to converge upon the centre of each pad, creating a sense of depth when seen from above. The veneer is completed to a high gloss finish and each is then traversed by the glossy wood lacquered margins that hug each pad. These margins eventually conclude their journey a long sleek black legs ensuring that all of the attention remains firmly on the table top, or better put, table tops.
