Description
A land that is world famous for its magical symbolism, Wales is often referred to as the “Land of Castles” and has become one of the most impressive nations for its history that far outlives its physical size. The designers of the Willis single sofa pay tribute to the history of this great nation and to the influences of the past more generally. Utilising classically luxurious materials and an exquisite structures, this piece is an inviting seat as much as it is a magical site of splendour.
The base of the piece sets outs its intentions in clear language. The matte exterior of the brushed aged brass is glamorous from the outset, however, the designers have poignantly emphasised its materiality to give off the appearance of timelessness. An ample central cushion is then enshrouded nearly entirely by the wraparound backrest of this piece, providing a comfort sense of being enclosed or surrounded by softness. The sensuous visual and textural softness of the velvet upholstery only acts to emphasise the comforting presence of the piece. Detailing the curvature of the sofa, in fact drawing the eyes towards this curvature, is a delightful feature detailing of polished nailhead that provides a glowing arc for the eyes to follow.
