A name only means so much. It shouldn’t constrain, or define, but provide a suggestion of what you can expect to see. To call the Violetta mirror a mirror, is technically correct but not in any traditional sense. This piece will not help you find the ideal outfit, complete your make up, or perfect your hair. It is in no sense a functional piece. But there’s something to be said for casting off the shackles of functionality every once in a while, especially if it is done so in the pursuit of stylistic goals. The Violetta mirror is simply breathtaking and must be seen to be believed.
It’s comprised from a variety of long, rectangular glass tubes, which are pressed tightly together in a vertical arrangement, and protrude forwards from the wall to varying degrees. The effect of this is a mirror that’s almost totally unusable, but simply and breathtakingly beautiful. The design is complex yet it doesn’t seem overthought or overdone. The goal was simple. To create a piece of art that could sit in a museum and draw no criticisms. The pipes are split into four sections of varying shapes and sizes and the structure is designed to cast flashes of beautiful light around the room in every direction, albeit totally at random.
