Who hasn’t marvelled at the idea of sitting, lamp-lit in a Smokey 1950s jazz bar, listening to the music and revelling in a long-night of martinis. Taking its name and inspiration from the distinguished style of the jazz saxophonist Sam Rivers, this armchair adds a sense of homely comfort to the fantasy of these long nights of abandon. Playfully incorporating a multitude of structures, colours and materials this is a beautiful statement piece that plays along to a rhythm undeniably its own. Let’s start with the piece’s striking surface.
Like a solo improvisation the design of soft leathery fabric is a play of different lines, that arc and bend around the curved structures of the chair guiding our line of vision in a sumptuous dance upon its surface. The bold, yet somewhat muted colour palette of the fabric exudes comfort and is a subtle pop of colour to add to any room. Then as we explore the piece further, we are treated to further tactile delights. The walnut veneer speaks of luxury and warmth, a classic touch in such a playful design. Whilst the gold- plated brass base and frontal structure reach out to meet us, like the raised saxophone of the band leader, in harmonious splendour.
