It’s possible to appreciate bold design, for nothing more than its bravery. We’re drawn to uncompromising design concepts and when they’re over a meter and half tall and attached to your living room wall, it’s hard to separate yourself from them. The Orla mirror is as daring as the feat of architecture that prided the inspiration for its design. The Sydney opera house, and its angular overlapping lines can be seen in the chaotic angular margin that runs around the edge of the reflective surface.
The mirror itself is a distorted hexagon, which pays no mind to providing either equal lines or angles. Instead it treads its own path, jutting out in sharp angles with an interior contour that showcases every shade of gold that makes up the frame. The frame of the mirror warrants an equally erratic centre, which does not disappoint. The walnut margin is divided by thin jutting lines of aged brass which provide a thin frame for each segment of the margin. The results are astonishing. It manages to promote the values of freeform design whilst still adhering to certain design fundamentals that allow it to retain an air of sophistication. The opera is simply beautiful and will easily find its place on any wall in any room.
