Description
The Milo floor lamp manages to appear to be at once classically beautiful and entirely modern and original. It’s a careful balancing act of time honoured design fundamentals and shockingly fun and whimsical additions and deviations from otherwise classic essentials. It’s an impressive work in every sense evoking images of a night at the proms, with its woodwind-like façade. The shaft of the lamp is formed from an ever widening cylinder which starts just a few inches shy of the shade, and slowly billows out as it covers the 60cm that makes up the stand, before coming to rest on the ground above a thin lip of polished brass.
This brass provides a beautiful glow to juxtapose with the dark rich lacquered wood that makes up the stand. But there’s a level of complexity to the stand that we haven’t yet covered. Small nubbins of the same polished brass that constitutes the base are dotted seemingly at random around the upper half of the stand, in an almost mushroom like quality. Its small design features like these that really bring a sense of fun and freedom to pieces that perhaps always needed that. A thin line runs up one side of the stand dissecting the piece in two. The shade itself sits atop what seems to be an impossibly slender brass stand and its sleek modern circular design provides the perfect flawless counterpoint to the bobbled frenzy that rests just below.
