It would be impossible to properly encapsulate the scale of the designer’s ambition, or the complexity of the final result without visual accompaniment. It’s a piece that speaks for itself, and that’s clearly something that it has absolutely no problem doing. This piece has cast off the shackles of symmetry to present us with something entirely new, and captivatingly daring in both scope and scale. Forget the practicality of this sideboard, which you would be forgiven for forgetting is actually a storage solution.
It’s so much more than that. Let’s begin at one end and work our way across. We begin with a wood based mosaic of white, grey and gold leaf, provided texture and a relative sense of calm whilst evoking imagery of bees on a hazy afternoon. These mosaic tiles cascade in geometric patterns from the left before arriving a sudden and certain stop. Here grey tiling meets an explosion of form. A silhouette that is as defiant as it is seemingly random in form. A crystalline structure that protrudes beyond the confines of the rest of its body dripping in a luxurious black lacquered matte finish. The black section offers two stout legs which form a perfect juxtaposition to its brass counterparts at the other end. The same brass that is used to frame both the form of the sideboard but also the form of the tiles to create something, that is truly, but not simply, breathtaking.
