The Cacey centre table takes inspiration from classic Portuguese architecture and a focus on the beauty of the interplay between modern and classical design fundamentals to provide something that is as captivating as it is fun. A table takes up a good deal of space in our homes, so it’s only right that it performs more than one role to warrant that space. And the Cacey offers itself for a secondary role of being a work of art. The bulk of the structure is classic and sleek a large, flat rectangular table top carved of walnut wood, with horizontal grains polished out onto the surface.
This table top is held in stasis above the a lower smaller counterpart, which is formed of the same walnut. But this is where the expected gives way to the unexpected. Two large swathes are cut into the table top with thick vertical slats all providing further support, and gracing the table with a sense of fun. The material choice is central to this effect. The largest slat is formed from a large block of wood, wrapped in in beautiful gold leaf which cuts a thick vein into the table top from one side to the other. It’s strange that the centre piece of a table would be one singular leg, but this is the case here and it makes perfect sense. A second smaller slat of wood wrapped in colourful Portuguese tiles or azuljo makes sure this piece stands out from the pack.
