Description
The Dakota is all about balance and regality. The name would probably suggest as much, but it can’t quite encapsulate the feat of design that’s on show here. When a piece through clever design, seems to set its own rules of physics, it creates its own space within an environment. It draws attention, and it draws questions. The legs are reminiscent to the logs of a campfire, and appear through their design to simply be resting against one another and supporting the table top through luck and stasis more than anything else.
The legs are comprised of 8 glowing polished glass pipes which shine out in a beautiful chorus and meet the floor at a variety of angles, eventually forming a wide base that provides enough support for the monolith that sits atop the legs. It looks that through the combination of the table tops, sheer size and the legs apparently lose grip on what lies above, that the balance that is struck between the two elements must be precarious at best. This is where the excitement of this piece comes from. The brass of the legs also forms a ring around the table top which is a large flawless circle carved of deep grainy marble with slightly curved edges to providing a softening touch.
